This is often a particularly rewarding part of training experience as you begin to see the ability to apply knowledge and skills more easily, but there is still so much to learn.
Please take your training experience seriously and continue to challenge yourself in learning. If you have frustrations with your training experience, it is often good to reflect on what you can do personally to increase your learning experience. Readings and other trainings are often the road to excellence. Always strive to be the therapist you would want to see, or who you would want your family and friends to see.
I am available to meet individually for issues and needs as they arise; please contact me by email or in class to schedule time to meet.

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR PRACTICUM COURSE AND TRAINING EXPERIENCE
Be prepared for supervision. Always be aware of the client you are presenting. Age, SES, presenting problem, risk factors, medications, treatment history, these are important for your supervisor to know and you should be prepared to present this including diagnostic impressions, symptoms and relevant life stressors and circumstances.
Take the experience to learn what you don't know, don't focus on trying to show what you do know.
Review ethics, laws and policies relevant to your agency or institution.
Have supervisor, director, and other emergency numbers available.
Know the emergency exit plan for your site and be prepared to assist a distressed client should you need to evacuate or hold in place.
Review the paperwork of the site and be familiar with it. Do a mock interview using it with a co-worker or classmate.
Even when all of your clients failed to show, you are still required to attend weekly supervision. The same for practicum class. Being present in the learning experience is crucial at this point; you are not just there to "collect hours."
You are representing National University and yourself as a future therapist. Show respect for your agency, staff, clients and supervisor and for yourself. Always present yourself in a professional manner.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Enjoy your training! This is an opportunity to learn in a safe environment. Take advantage of hearing your fellow student's experiences and learn from them. Passive and active learning are both forms of learning. You will get much more out of the experience if you are enthusiastic, curious and devoted to growing, and I am hear to facilitate the best experience for you.
